By adding a secure container or enabling an existing on-site store with our solution Opus can help to reduce daily deliveries, minimizing carbon footprint and ensuring contractors have the supplies they need to keep projects on schedule.

At £300bn Construction accounts for around 6% of UK Economic output and employment, with 2.8m people employed. A diverse industry it takes in residential, infrastructure, industrial, commercial & retail, hotels & leisure, education and health.

Impacted heavily by Covid and the changes to working practices, Construction appears to be an industry set to gain from planned increased investment in additional housing, improved transport links, clean energy, and hospital and schools programmes.

The industry is supported by a large ancillary sector which services it with the supply of building materials, tools, fixtures, security, portable buildings and others, to establish temporary sites.

Challenges

Key challenges for the sector are getting product to site in a secure, cost effective, environmentally friendly way, whilst minimising waste. In addition ensuring workers have the parts they need to hand is critical, as waiting for parts to arrive leads to project delays and impacts on productivity, costing time and money.

For urban sites, with most suppliers close at hand and able to fulfil multiple daily deliveries, there is less risk of a stock out.  The downside is the negative impact on the environment, added congestion in the local area plus the perennial problem of delivering parcels to the right part of the site and person with wasted time locating parts.

For larger & more remote sites may have a store on site to reduce deliveries, however this can be costly with risk of loss / waste, running out of items or has to be staffed adding cost. Smallersites may not have this option available so are left ordering stock and parts in, taking the risk of stockouts or having the frequent deliveries.
